COLUMBIANA Ordinance raises fee for lighting

Customers are responsible for installation and maintenance fees.
COLUMBIANA -- City council gave first reading to an ordinance to increase the fees for rental of security lighting.
City Manager Keith Chamberlin said the city has rented security lighting to residential and commercial customers for many years.
The new rates will take effect when council gives the ordinance final approval, likely at the Nov. 5 meeting, Chamberlin said.
Customers are responsible for installation and maintenance fees for the lights. The city charges a monthly fee for the lights, but the electricity use is not metered, he said.
Monthly fee increases will be $3.50 to $5 for 175 watt; $4 to $7 for 200 watt; $11 to $12 for 400 watt; and $14 to $25 for 1,000 watt.
Chamberlin said the council also gave first reading to an ordinance directing Chamberlin to present a franchise fee proposal to AT & amp;T Cable for city cable services.
He said the council must approve such an ordinance before he can give the cable company the city's proposal.
He said council will have a work session at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 to discuss Insurance Services Office Inc. reports. The company studies municipal fire services and water systems and provides reports to insurance companies, Chamberlin said.
He said insurance companies use the reports to determine homeowners' insurance rates.
