WARREN -- A Trumbull County grand jury has chosen not to indict a 40-year-old city woman on a voluntary manslaughter charge.
Theresa Carnahan, of 995 Belvedere Ave. S.E., was arrested Sept. 7 shortly after police found her husband, Michael, 41, stabbed in the chest in his driveway around 2 a.m. He died at a local hospital.
Detectives said the woman stabbed Carnahan, who was choking her while they were fighting after he kicked their dog for urinating on the floor.
Live grenade detonated
MASURY -- The Youngstown police bomb squad detonated a live grenade found inside an Elm Street home here Thursday afternoon.
Brookfield Township police and Detective Sgt. Joseph DeMatteo, a bomb squad member, said home owner John Rilley had died and his family was cleaning out the house at 7682 Elm St.
A friend of Rilley's warned the family the grenade might be inside house, DeMatteo said.
The bomb squad took the device to Yankee Lake to detonate it. DeMatteo said it was an anti-armor weapon, the first he has seen.
Girl Scout fund-raiser
The Lake to River Girl Scout Council is sponsoring a nut snack sale through Oct. 27. Products range from gift packages of deluxe nut products at $6 and $7 to canned snacks priced at $3.50.
All orders will be delivered in time for Thanksgiving.
New this year are the All American Snacks Cookbook for $6; a gingerbread-scented candle, also $6; and two chocolates.

Bogus money orders
NILES -- A man tried to use two bogus $500 money orders at a local business, police said.
The man, using identification with a Cleveland address, entered Sam's Club on Youngstown-Warren Road around 2 p.m. Thursday and tried to buy a $700 TV. The clerk became suspicious because the money orders were not cut evenly and no security watermark was present.
When the clerk called the manager, the man fled, leaving behind his ID and Sam's Club card. A check of his account revealed the man bought TVs three times from various Sam's Clubs in the Cleveland area.
Warren trash on time
WARREN -- The city's trash removal will be on schedule despite the Columbus Day holiday Monday.

ODOT proposes2 Hubbard projects
HUBBARD -- The Ohio Department of Transportation is proposing two projects in the Hubbard area.
One is resurfacing of U.S. Route 62 from the Hubbard city limits at Drummond Avenue to Masury, beginning next fall.
During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2004.
The second project is the replacement of a culvert on state Route 304 in Hubbard Township, just east of Bell-Wick Road.
During construction, to begin in the spring, Route 304 will be closed for about three weeks.
Zoning amendments
MINERAL RIDGE -- Township trustees must now review and act on amendments to the zoning regulations which require more green space as buffers next to buildings and on curb lawns of all new businesses.
An amendment to the regulations was approved by the township zoning commission Wednesday, based on regulations of neighboring communities, commission president Fred McCandless said.
The amendments expand the township's requirements for green space and apply to all new commercial or industrial buildings.
Mom and Me Tea
WARREN -- Breast-feeding mothers and their babies are invited to a Mom and Me Tea from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the second-floor classrooms at St. Joseph Health Center, 667 Eastland Ave.
The program includes support for breast-feeding moms, refreshments and prizes.
This month's tea will be a costume party for the babies and feature Eve Bevilacqua of Bodyworks, who will demonstrate light exercise for moms and babies.

Krakusy meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- There will be a special meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday to decide the future of the Free Polish Krakusy Society.
All members are urged to attend the meeting, which will focus on the organization's future as well as the fate of Krakusy Hall.
