YOUNGSTOWN -- Howard's Ranieka Bean scored three goals and had one assist to lead the Bison to a 4-0 win over Youngstown State Wednesday at Stambaugh Stadium.
Howard (4-7-1) outshot YSU, 26-13, and out-cornered the Penguins, 6-2. Freshman Jessica Yarter took five shots for Youngstown State (1-11) and freshman keeper Caitlin Bestard recorded 10 saves.
Youngstown State plays host to UW-Green Bay Sunday at noon.
Women's tennis
INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior Annie Marino was named the Horizon League player of the week.
Marino was a double winner for the Penguins for the second weekend in a row, winning her match at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1, and joining teammate Nada Shah for an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles against St. Francis, Pa., Oct. 5. Marino has a team-best record of 3-1.
Women's golf
INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior Lori Hatcher was named Horizon League athlete of the week.
Hatcher led the Penguins to the Golden Grizzly Invitational Championship, placing third with 80-85 -- 165, three strokes behind of the winner.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Saturday's starting time for Youngstown State's match against Illinois-Chicago has been moved from 2 p.m. to 1 p.m.

ALLIANCE -- Two former Mount Union College athletes from Mahoning County -- Dave Scarpitti (Sebring High) and Scott Woolf (West Branch) -- are among the five new members named to the Mount Union M-Club Hall of Fame.
Scarpitti (basketball, class of 1978) and Woolf (football, '86) will join Ronald Collins (wrestling, '73), Frank Maietta (football, '76) and Sean Malotke (swimming, '87) in the hall.
The group will be inducted at halftime of the Mount Union-Heidelberg football game Saturday in Alliance.
Skier in town
AUSTINTOWN -- Glen Plake, an extreme skier who does stunts in movies, will make a guest appearance at the "R" Ski & amp; Snowboards store at 5880 Mahoning Ave. in the Austintown Plaza Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
Plake is one of the world's most recognizable skiers with his multi-colored Mohawk haircut.
"R" Ski & amp; Snowboards is co-owned by Rich Edwards and Bob Saleman. The store is in its 20th year.

AUSTINTOWN -- Teams representing Columbiana, Mahoning Public, Ashtabula and Mahoning MR/DD recently took part in the Mahoning County Special Olympics Bowling Tournament at Wedgewood Lanes.

Man held ontheft charges
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A friend of Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Quinton McCracken used his bank account number to steal more than $186,000.
Stephen Haase, 38, of St. Petersburg, was charged with one count of scheming to defraud. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail with bail set at $200,000.

Retired Bay Area Judge Coleman Fannin tried to get both sides to settle out of court, but lawyers for Alex Popov and Patrick Hayashi said in a joint statement that the difference of opinion would have to be resolved at trial.

The 35th-ranked Stevenson, who played three matches to reach the main draw, gambled on winners throughout and hit her second serve full strength to pressure Capriati.
