Boardman wins cross country title



AUSTINTOWN -- Boardman ran off with both the boys and girls titles again in the final Steel Valley Conference cross country meet Tuesday at Austintown Township Park.
Erik Moss of Mooney took first place in the 5000 run in 16 minutes, 49.99 seconds. The Spartans won with 26 points and were paced by Jim Hlebak (17:16.33), Ben Haushalter (17:16.86) and Tom Barth (17:30.96), who finished second, third and seven respectively.
Brittany Durkin led the Boardman girls to victory as she took first place in 19 minutes, 54.94 seconds. Val Zajac of Mooney, last year's champ (10:08.75), was second.
Girard, Badger champs
CHAMPION -- Girard's boys and Badger's girls captured team titles in the Trumbull Athletic Conference meet at Champion High School.
George Parson of LaBrae set a course record in taking first place in 17 minutes, 7 seconds. Teammate Matt Frederick (17:20.) was second and Bob Caldwell (17:28.5) of Girard placed third.
Mary Sivulich of Hubbard took first place in the third run in a course record 19 minutes, 59.9 seconds.
Badger took the title with 40 points. Samantha Bonar led the Braves as she placed seventh (21:08.1).
