Christmas concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- A unique Christmas concert will include carols and the Ave Maria sung in different languages and performed on different instruments at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at St. Christine Church.
Marsha Heather Long of New York will perform several selections from her recent CD, "Ave Maria: The Universal and Timeless Hymn" that offers 26 versions of the prayer. The CD is the first produced by Alba House Communications in Canfield.
Long will also perform "O Holy Night" in French and "Silent Night" in German, along with Gaelic and Italian carols.
Other selections will include Mozart's "Alleluia" and a variation of "O Tannenbaum" Long premiered at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Long will play the organ, concert harp, lyre and other instruments.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, and are available at the door. The CD will be available at the concert, and is also available at Alba House stores or by calling (800) 533-ALBA.
Advent events
AUSTINTOWN -- Grace Lutheran Church will observe Advent with a light supper at 5:30 p.m. with worship at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and Dec. 12 and 19. A "blue" Christmas Service will be at 4 p.m. Dec. 15. The service is for those who have difficulty getting into the holiday spirit.
Women's conference
ALIQUIPPA, Pa. -- A Holy Women Armed For Battle Conference will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday through 8 at Sound The Alarm Ministries. The speaker next Saturday will be Prophetess Jan L. McCulley of Mount Calvary International Ministries in Youngstown. The Deadline for registration is Monday. Saturday's cost is $15, and the cost for the entire conference is $35. Call (724) 375-2008.
Aglow speaker
AUSTINTOWN -- Karen Jones of Warren, a regular visitor to orphaned children in Russia, will speak when Aglow International Mahoning Valley Community Lighthouse meets at Luciano's Restaurant on Dec. 13. Ensemble to perform
NILES -- The Wade Raridon Singers, which consists of four members of The Dana Chorale and the Dana Madrigal Singers, will present a concert of seasonal music at 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at Niles Presbyterian Church
Benefit concert
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- "Joy To the World," a program of sacred Christmas music, will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at Westfield Presbyterian Church. Donations will benefit Project H.O.P.E., an outreach ministry of the Mohawk-area churches in Lawrence County. Refreshments will follow. Call (724) 567-7045.
Community chorus
WARREN -- The Warren Community Chorus will present, "Messiah & amp; More," at 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday in Blessed Sacrament Worship Center.
Gospel music set
CLARKS MILLS, Pa. -- The Clarks Mills United Methodist Church will have a morning of worship and fellowship at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. Dec. 15. The services will be led by the B-Attitudes gospel music ministry. An offering will be taken. Call (724) 253-2424.
Christmas banquet
HUBBARD -- The Crossing Paths, a local Christian TV Ministry, will have its annual Christmas banquet at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Brentford House. The speaker will be Dr. Charles McGowen, a retired physician and author of, "Let's Talk About Heaven," and "In Six Days: A Case For Intelligent Design." Due at shrine
NORTH JACKSON -- Babsie Bleasdell, founder of the Word of Life Prayer Community in Trinidad, will be part of events Friday through Dec. 8 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon. Reservations are due today for Saturday. The cost is $35 for adults and $18 for children, which includes meals. Offerings will be taken on Friday and Dec. 8.
On Friday, events begin with the Rosary at 11 a.m. Bleasdell will speak at 7:30 p.m. Events Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. include two talks by Bleasdell. Events on Sunday are from 9:15 a.m. to noon.
Children's program
GIRARD -- Kids on the Rock, the ministry for youths age 4 through 12 at First Assembly of God, will have a Winter Wonderland from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Dec. 14. There will a holiday message, puppets, games, crafts and food. Call (330) 539-0003.
Pastor installation
CAMPBELL -- There will be several services for the installation of the Rev. Hubert D. Clardy Jr. as pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. They are at 7 p.m. Friday with Third Baptist Church of Youngstown as the guest church, and 7 p.m. next Saturday with Rising Star Baptist Church of Youngstown.
At 11 a.m. Dec. 8, the speaker will be Pastor Lamont A. Coates of Second Baptist Church in Delaware, Ohio. At 4 p.m. Dec. 8, the speaker will be the Rev. Michael E. Rutledge of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Steubenville, and Faith Temple Baptist Church of Campbell will be the guest church.
Advent program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Knights of Columbus Youngstown Council 274 will present its annual "Light Up for Christ" program at 3:45 p.m. Sunday on Elm Street beside the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown offices.
The program is part of a national effort to share the meaning of Advent. Refreshments will follow.
Musician to perform
BOARDMAN -- Donnie Sumner, former lead singer for the Stamps Quartet and a backup singer for Elvis Presley, will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church. The cost is $10.
