COLUMBIANA Council will meet with half its members

Three of six council members are on vacation.
COLUMBIANA -- City Manager Keith Chamberlin already knows tonight's city council meeting will be a short one.
Council members Don Leonard, Pat Keylor and Paula Miner are out of town on vacation. With three of six members absent, council can discuss but not act on any business.
Chamberlin said Leonard and Keylor schedule vacations this week each year, so he made certain any pressing items were handled beforehand.
The next regular meeting will be Dec. 3, and Chamberlin doesn't anticipate a special meeting will be needed before then.
Meanwhile, engineers continue to work on plans for a $3 million project to extend water and sewer services to the area near state Route 7 and state Route 14, Chamberlin said.
OEPA approval
The city has the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's approval to install water and sewer services along the Route 14 corridor east of the city.
Chamberlin said city officials hope to advertise for bids soon and award contracts by the end of the year.
The work will begin in the spring, depending on the winning contractors' schedules, he said.
About 30 property owners will be assessed for the project; the Firestone Farms development represents about 75 percent of the property to be assessed.
The Links at Firestone Farms -- a golf course -- is already operating on the land, and developer Wayne Bacon has also planned to build upscale housing in the area.
