Harrisburg star tops PSU women recruits

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- A versatile guard from Harrisburg and a 6-foot-4 center from Kennett Square are among three high school standouts who have signed letters of intent to play basketball for Penn State.
Coach Rene Portland announced Friday she had received letters of intent from Jen Harris, a 5-11 guard from Central Dauphin; Amanda Brown, a 6-4 center from Unionville; and Rochelle Johnson, a 6-2 forward/center from Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Conn.
"We are very happy with what we think is a great recruiting class," Portland said. "Each of the three players are versatile and fit perfectly within our system. They each have shown the ability to make a significant contribution early in their collegiate careers."
Because of Penn State's depth at guard -- both of last year's leading scorers, Kelly Mazzante and Tanisha Wright, will be back next year -- Harris might get the least court time of the three next year.
Still, she is considered the star of the class, and many consider her to be the best player in the state. Harris was ranked the No. 22 senior and the third-best wing in the country by the scouting service All-Star Girls Report.
