BB Rooners 8-12, Ashtabula 2-1 -- Matt Colella scattered five hits and struck out seven in the first game. Jeff Hehr collected three hits, while Adam Daugherty and Sam Mann each had two. Hehr, Colella and Josh Faltot each had two hits in the second game. Winning pitcher Jeff Claar, Aaron Johnston and John Nastase limited Ashtabula to four hits.
BB Rooners 2, Seneca, Pa. 1 -- Jeff Hehr and Matt Colella, who scored the winning run, each had two hits for Rooners (4-0). Winning pitcher Ben Barnett recorded 10 strike outs.
Tri-T PONY
Salem VFW 17, Niles Attourney Matt Blair 4 -- Gregg Shadle pitched three innings, struck out seven and didn't allow a hit, while Sean McKee retired all six batters he faced and struck out three. Corey Rickman went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Boardman Mayo and Associates 5, Poland Perkins Builders 2 -- Mayo's errorless defense was led by Mike Kadilak and Joe Bako. Mark Cartwright gave up only one hit through four innings for his fourth win of the season. Mike Berry had a double and two singles tole a base and scored twice. J. Borrell tripled in a run and scored once for Perkins.
SOFTBALL
Valley Sting 12 and under placed second in the PONY tournament at Hubbard. Markie Pozzuto and Caitlyn Young each had two pitching victories. Young struck out 23 and Pozzuto 29. Courtney Schiffaeur, Danielle Burin, Whitney Yeager had six hits apiece. Yeager and Schiffaeur each drove in six runs. Valley Sting defeated Raging Thunder 16-2, Pittsburgh Power 5-4 and Worthington Heat 9-0 and 16-2 before losing to Pittsburgh Power 6-2.
