COLUMBIANA Hearing to focus on TV service
Customers may comment on service issues and their future cable-related interests.
COLUMBIANA -- City residents will have opportunity to voice their opinions about AT & amp;T cable television service.
City Manager Keith Chamberlin said a public hearing will be at 8 p.m. May 21 at city hall, 28 W. Friend St.
The public hearing is part of the city's cable television franchise renewal process.
Chamberlin said residents may comment on the performance of AT & amp;T during the term of its franchise and the community's future cable-related needs and interests.
Internet access through cable television and links to the public library and public schools are some of the items under consideration.
Chamberlin said the city cannot negotiate cable service fees.
Looking over responses
He said city officials and a consultant will review responses of those at the meeting as well as responses from a recent community survey to determine what to include in the franchise agreement.
Chamberlin said the current 10-year agreement expires June 30. If there were no changes to the current agreement, it would continue, he said.
Surveys were mailed to all city residents who use the city's municipal power, Chamberlin said. That mailing list includes not only current and past cable customers, but also those who might consider subscribing, he said.
About 15 percent of the surveys were returned, which Chamberlin considered an excellent response.
