Man charged after wife is found injured

CANFIELD -- A 24-year-old Fairground Boulevard man was arrested by city police on domestic violence charges after police found his 16-year-old wife in her pajamas at a gas station about 2:15 a.m. Monday with injuries to her lip, forehead, neck, throat and chest
The girl told an officer her husband of five months had come home about 12:30 a.m. and was angry that dinner was not prepared. She said he punched her in the mouth, threw her around the apartment, grabbed her by her neck, slammed her against a wall, held her to the floor by her hair and threatened to kill her, police reports show. She followed him outside, where he smashed her head into a brick wall and locked her out. She had gone to the BP station on U.S. Route 224 to call him.
The woman was given information on domestic violence and went to her aunt's home.
While she refused to press charges, officers arrested the husband about 8:45 p.m. Monday, based on her injuries. He told police he had acted in self-defense and that some of his wife's injuries were self-inflicted.
