Dynamite detonated
COITSVILLE -- The Youngstown Police Department bomb squad blew up two sticks of deteriorated dynamite found Tuesday afternoon in the attic of a restaurant-bar at 3535 Upland Ave., said Detective Sgt. Joe DeMatteo, head of the unit. Coitsville Lt. Allan P. Morris said John J. Pavlic Jr., the owner of Sonny Pav's Restaurant, discovered a suspicious package while cleaning the attic and called police. Morris said roads near the building were closed for two hours. He said because the old dynamite was unstable, the bomb squad decided to detonate it there rather than move it. Neighbors told police that, years ago, the bar's former owner used dynamite to blow up rocks behind the business with the idea of clearing the land for a three-hole golf course.
