Big fourth inning keys Canfield past Niles; Ridge beats Champion



CANFIELD -- Megan Turocy (7-6) fired a four-hitter and struck out 14 batters as the Canfield High softball team defeated Niles 6-2 Wednesday in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Amanda Williams' bases-loaded triple keyed a six-run fourth inning for Canfield (9-9, 5-3). Also producing hits in that frame were Stephanie Mistovich, Trish McHenry, Carolyn Ross and Lindsay Yosay.
Maria Caicco had two hits for Niles (8-9).
Mineral Ridge 3, Champion 2: MINERAL RIDGE -- With two away in the last of the eighth inning, Sylvia Dubic singled home Sarah Gerberry with the winning run for the Rams (12-5).
Katie Olive singled in two runs for the Rams in the fifth frame.
Gerberry walked in the eighth and went to second when winning-pitcher Ashley Ault (9-3) reached on an infield single. A sacrifice advanced both runners.
Jessica Rowland had a single and a homer and Jessica Carpenter had two hits for the Golden Flashes (8-8).
Baseball
Lakeview 5, Warren JFK 3: CORTLAND -- Justin Mansfield homered and Kyle Irish doubled for the Bulldogs (9-4).
Lakeview scored three times in the second inning.
