HONORED Man and Woman of Year recognized by Saxon Club



AUSTINTOWN -- Recognition of the Saxon Man and Woman of the Year was a highlight of an annual benefit goulash dinner held March 23 by the Saxon Club at the clubroom on Meridian Road.
Singled out for the honor were Mary Ann Uhran and Jim Buchman who were presented awards by William Schuller, Branch 30 president, and Helen Fotiuk, Branch 22 president.
Uhran has been a member of Branch 22 since 1983. She has served as a trustee and has been second vice president for four years. She is also a member of the Concordia Chorus, has served on various committees and given many invocations.
She is an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church on Tippecanoe Road where she has been a member of council, Luther League, Sunday school, Ladies Circle and choir.
Also honored: Buchman, who retired in 1994 from his own construction business, has been a member of the Saxon Club since 1972 and serves as assistant financial secretary. He has served as chairman of various committee, has been involved in remodeling projects, and for several years handled the position of landscaping and design of the club's Memorial Island. Buchman's wife, Louise, two daughters, and four grandchildren are also members of the Saxon Club.
Sophia Froom, past president of the ladies branch, was chairman for the event, and the emcee was David P. Bokesch, national president of the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons.
Entertainment was provided by Eintracht Mannerchor, an all-male chorus from New Castle, Pa., and the Concordia Mixed Chorus of Youngstown, under the direction of Jim Johnson.
