MERCER COUNTY Greenville man sentenced in sexual assault on woman

A West Middlesex man will do jail time for stealing groceries and tools.
MERCER, Pa. -- A Greenville man was sentenced to consecutive jail terms this week for indecent assault and simple assault after an October attack on a woman at his home.
Documents from Mercer County Common Pleas Court say Ryan Offutt, 22, of Alhambra Place reported he was drinking with friends at a local bar. When he returned home, he tried to have sex with one of the friends, a woman who had fallen asleep in a bedroom.
The victim woke up and resisted, but he repeatedly struck her as she tried to flee. He threw her onto a bed and she hit the headboard, suffering cuts and bruises to her face, mouth, back, shoulder and buttocks, the documents say.
Judge Francis Fornelli sentenced Offutt to three to 12 months in county jail for indecent assault and one to 12 months for simple assault. The terms will be served consecutively.
Theft convictions: A West Middlesex man also received consecutive jail terms for two misdemeanor retail theft convictions.
Thomas Rock III, 41, of Spencer Road, was sentenced to three to 12 months in jail for stealing $388 worth of groceries from Donofrio's Food Center in Hermitage and three to 12 months for taking tools worth $270 from the Wal-Mart store in Hermitage.
Rock had been placed on probation in February 2001 for the offenses, which occurred in October 2000, but he violated the probation terms last month by using cocaine, court documents say.
Sexual assault: Also sentenced was Omar Bradley, 22, of Elm Road, Masury, to six months to two years less one day in jail for statutory sexual assault, a felony, for engaging in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl beginning when she was 13.
The offenses occurred from 1999 to 2001 at a Sharon residence. He was given 13 days' credit for time served. Court documents say Bradley was dating the girl and thought she was older.
