Ex-member of WRTA board is honored
YOUNGSTOWN --Trustees of the Western Reserve Transit Authority presented a "resolution of appreciation" to former board member Tom Anderson.
The resolution recognizes Anderson's service from Feb. 1, 1999 through Jan. 31, 2002.
In addition to a wall plaque, Anderson, who is blind, received a translation of the inscription in Braille.
In other business at the board's meeting Thursday, Jim Ferraro, WRTA executive director, said February ridership showed "a nice increase."
Ridership in February was up 19 percent overall compared to February 2001; the number of students riding the bus in February was up 29 percent.
The number of adult riders was up by 7,000, and many of those riders are taking advantage of WRTA's night service, Ferraro said.
"Night rider growth has done amazingly well considering we haven't promoted it; it's all been by word of mouth," he added.
Ferraro also told board members that sales are pending for 15 of the 27 vehicles WRTA has retired from service.
