ATHENS -- Youngstown State was handed a 15-1 setback by Ohio University Wednesday at Bob Wren Stadium.
The Penguins (6-7) had a three-game winning streak snapped as the Bobcats built a 5-1 lead through five innings, then broke the contest open as they scored six more in the seventh inning.
YSU got its only run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk by Ty Furino that scored Kyle Smith.
Matt Brumit of the Penguins (0-2) allowed just one hit and a run in three innings. Corey Ohalek gave up four runs, four hits and walked two in three innings.
The Penguins were to play at Miami (Ohio) today at 3:30 p.m.
Women's tennis
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Youngstown State dropped a 5-4 match to Pittsburgh Wednesday.
Junior Sarah Rothenberg of YSU won a singles match 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 and teamed with Jenny Vodhanel for a 9-7 doubles victory.
Football recruiting
YOUNGSTOWN -- Joe Debee of Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas High School will play football at Youngstown State in the fall.
A two-way tackle, Debee was a three-year starter for the Knights and was a captain last season.
He was also a two-time state qualifier for St. Thomas' wrestling team and a 2002 district champion.
Pitching clinics
YOUNGSTOWN -- Craig Antush, Youngstown State assistant baseball coach, will conduct pitching clinics at Cafaro Field April 5 and April 7 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The cost of each camp is $30 and each session is limited to 30 players.
The first camp is for ages 8-12 and the second for ages 13-18.

Mahoning winsat Hoyle tourney
SHARON, Pa. -- Benson Collier fired in 26 points as the Mahoning boys clipped Venango 71-58 Wednesday in the 65th Hoyle Tournament at Sharon High School.
The Mahoning stars built a 39-29 lead by intermission. Tyral Denmark chipped in with 15 points and Shaun Simpson finished with 11. Shaun Grill led the losers with 16.
Lawrence County put four players in double figures as it upended Mercer County II Nationwide Insurance 82-67.
Mark Demonico led the winners with 21 points. Dom Joseph added 13, while Deon Ward and Hoover Gibson each had 10.
Chez Phillips led Mercer County with 14. Danny Harris and Brian Dungee chipped in with 10 apiece.
The tournament continues tonight as Mercer faces Trumbull at 6:30, Allegheny meets Venango at 7:30, Mercer takes on Mercer II at 6:45 and Trumbull goes against Lawrence at 10.
Geneva Collegehosts the Steelers
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- For the second straight year, Geneva College, in conjunction with Preston Dodge, will welcome the Pittsburgh Steelers for a charity basketball game Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Metheny Fieldhouse.
Three preliminary games, beginning at 6:30 p.m., involving fifth and sixth grade boys teams from Divine Mercy, St. Phil's, Aliquippa and Blackhawk, will be played.

SARVER, Pa. -- Because of continuous rain and wet grounds, the Lernerville Speedway's 35th season opener has been canceled until April 5.
Gates will open at 5 p.m. and racing will start at 7:30, with springs, late models, modifieds and stocks scheduled to race.

NORTHFIELD -- Lavros Skipper N posted the fastest mile of the season with a 1 minute, 53.2 seconds win at Northfield Park last Saturday.
Dave Hawk drove the New Zealand-bred horse for owner-trainer Bob Corey Jr., of Canfield.
Grey 14s winvolleyball event
WOOSTER -- Trumbull Grey 14s won the Wooster Volleyball Tournament, defeating North Shore 25-15, 25-23 in the gold finals. Members of the team are: Kim Budd, Callie Oyler and Caren Cover of Hubbard; Michelle Pellini of Canfield; Nicole Smaldino, Kim Smaldino and Kelcey Schaeffer of Austintown; and Taralee Williams and Jeanett Geer of Brookfield. Poland's Moranwill attend B-W
POLAND -- Defensive end Brendan Moran of Poland High will continue his football career with Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea.
A Bulldogs captain, the 6-foot, 205-pound Moran received Metro Athletic Conference honors in his junior and senior seasons. He plans to major in education.
