Ursuline picks Murphyas new football coach
Daniel Murphy has been hired as the new head football coach at Ursuline High School.
Murphy replaces Jim Vivo, who resigned in February to assume a similar position at Westerville North High School.
A graduate of St. Dominic Elementary School and Cardinal Mooney High School, Murphy earned a bachelor of arts degree from Youngstown State University and a teaching certificate from Mount Union College.
In 1998 Murphy received a master's degree in sports administration from the University of Toledo.
His coaching experience includes two years as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Poland High School, followed by a two-year stint as an assistant coach and graduate assistant at the University of Toledo.
For the past four seasons he has been an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Massillon Washington High School.
Murphy will meet with parents and members of the Booster Club in the school's cafeteria Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Irish won the 2000 Division IV state title but fell to 3-7 last season after having to forfeit four games for use of an ineligible player.
