Insurer presents award to Greenville paramedic



WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- Donald Holsten of Greenville has been recognized for his work in emergency medical care.
Holsten, an emergency medical services specialist with UPMC Horizon and a flight paramedic with STATE MedEvac stationed in Greenville, was presented with the Firemark Award at the annual symposium of the Emergency Medical Management Cooperative Organization West at the Radisson Hotel.
The award is presented annually by Liberty Mutual Insurance Group to emergency medical personnel who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, valor and a selfless spirit.
Accomplishments: Holsten is credited with working to integrate emergency medical care into the entire health care system and is an instructor for paramedic and EMS classes across northwestern Pennsylvania.
He began his career 20 years ago in Clarion County, where he served on the county EMS Council, and he has been a certified paramedic since 1986. He was instrumental in developing the first EMMCO West advanced life support treatment protocols.
He was president of the Pennsylvania Paramedic Association in 1993 and is the co-author of EMS Act 82, which defines the roles of EMS personnel in Pennsylvania.
