KEYSTONE CLIPS River group plans cleanup



The Shenango River Watchers will hold its first cleanup of the year April 6, concentrating on an area of the river just below the Shenango Dam on Shenango River Lake. The group will clean the riverbanks from the dam to the bridge at High Street in Sharpsville. Anyone can participate, but those planning to take part are asked to call Mike McLaughlin, cleanup committee chairman, at (724) 528-1102 to register. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the Army Corps of Engineers Resource Manager's office, adjacent to the dam. The cleanup will last about four hours with lunch provided.
Choir concert: The Thiel College Choir is inviting community singers to participate in a performance at 8 p.m. April 19 in First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. The concert, the eighth annual collaborative performance, will feature an all-American program with works by Aaron Copland, Randall Thompson and Daniel Pinkham. Rehearsals are being scheduled for Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons and will be at the church, 323 Main St. Those interested should contact Dr. Michael Bray, choir director, at Thiel at (724) 589-2149.
Alcohol awareness: Ben Franklin Junior High School in New Castle is participating in the 2002 Alcohol Awareness Poster Program. The program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Health and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Claude Marrangoni's seventh-grade art class submitted entries for consideration. A local poster contest was judged by Lawrence County District Attorney Matt Mangino, and the winners were Adam Reno, Marty Pitzer, Amanda Monaco and Richard Neely. All 55 pupils who entered the contest received a certificate from the district attorney's office, and the four winners will receive a tour of the county government center and the jail. Each winner also received a savings bond from Adelphia Cable.
