Here are the current district costs and teacher benefits under the extended terms of the teacher contract that expired July 1:
Number of teachers: 165.
Working days: 186 with 180 in classroom instruction.
Starting salary: $31,976.
Maximum salary: $63,200.
Average salary: $47,033.
Hospitalization, dental, vision and life insurance: District cost -- $6,865 per teacher annually. District pays full cost of hospitalization, teachers contribute 50 cents per month for family dental plan and 66 cents per month for family vision plan. District provides $1,000 in life insurance coverage for each $1,000 earned by a teacher. For example, a $47,000 salary carries $47,000 in life insurance.
Retirement, Social Security, workers' compensation and unemployment: District cost -- $2,315 per teacher annually. Teachers hired before 1983 contribute 6.5 percent of their income to their retirement fund while those hired after that date pay 7.5 percent.
Sick days: 12 per year but can be carried over and accumulated with no cap. District buys back unused sick days at retirement or resignation at $30 per day.
Personal days: Three per year, but two can be carried over into subsequent years with a maximum of five allowed to be used in any single year. One unused personal day is converted to an additional sick day if it isn't used by the end of the year.
Sabbatical leave: Available for health or educational purposes after 10 years of service at 50 percent of salary.
