YOUNGSTOWN Police charge four after drug raids



One woman had 30 packets of suspected heroin in her waistband, police said.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 37-year-old South Side woman remains free on $5,000 bail after her arraignment in Youngstown Municipal Court on a felony drug trafficking charge.
Diane Martinez, of East Myrtle Avenue, told Judge Robert P. Milich during the court hearing Tuesday that she would retain her own counsel to fight the charge.
Martinez was arrested during a raid at 4:30 p.m. Friday at her home by the Youngstown vice squad, police reports show. Officers confiscated $880 and a plastic bag containing several bundles of suspected heroin, according to reports.
Once she was transported to the Mahoning County Jail, deputies there found 30 packets of suspected heroin in the waistband of her pants, according to reports.
She has posted 10 percent of the $5,000 bond to remain free.
Also arraigned Tuesday on charges connected to South Side raids Friday by the vice squad were:
UJames Veal, 35, of East Ravenwood Avenue, on a felony drug trafficking charge. Officers said he was present when they found several plastic bags of suspected crack cocaine packaged for sale during a raid at 2:30 p.m. on West Princeton Avenue, police reports show. Judge Milich ordered a $3,500, 10 percent, bond. Veal said he would retain his own attorney.
UIan Perry, 24, of Fairgreen Avenue, on a felony drug abuse charge. Officers raiding an East Philadelphia Avenue address about 3 p.m. found a plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine on him, police reports show. Judge Milich set a $5,000 cash or surety bond, and Perry said he would retain an attorney.
UMarcus L. Clark, 21, of a separate Fairgreen Avenue address, on a felony drug abuse charge. Officers at the East Philadelphia raid found a plastic bag containing several rocks of suspected crack cocaine on him, police reports show. Judge Milich set a $2,500 cash or surety bond and appointed an attorney.
