LIBERTY -- The SCOPE Senior Center opened here Monday on Tibbetts-Wick Road behind White Wing Christian Book Store. It has limited hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Township trustees pay $1,500 monthly to lease the building and Church of God of Prophecy's outreach ministry prepared the space for occupancy. Event at KSUTC targetsdisabled students
WARREN -- The annual Trumbull County Transition Fair acquaints students with disabilities and their families with community agencies. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 27 at Kent State University Trumbull Campus in Champion. It caters to students ages 14 to 22. More than 35 agencies, vendors and product exhibitors will be on hand to discuss issues including Social Security, Medicaid, guardianship and financial planning. Library to be closed
WARREN -- The main branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Library will be closed Sunday for a computer upgrade and March 31 for Easter.
Resurfacing bids sought
CORTLAND -- The city is seeking bids for resurfacing six streets. Council passed a resolution Monday to advertise for bids. Officials hope to get the streets paved this summer. They are Dennis Drive, Erie Street, North Colonial Drive, Stahl Avenue, Viets Drive and Winter Lane. Council also is looking at hiring Alexander's Pest Control of Warren to complete between six and eight mosquito sprayings this spring and summer at a cost of $6,000.
Lions Club donates
CHAMPION -- Warren Lions Club has donated $5,000 to Kent State University Trumbull Campus to support the new adaptive technology lab. The lab, which opened in January, provides facilities to educate and train students with disabilities.
Warren man accused
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Warren man faces extradition to Crawford County, Pa., on charges that he raped a 19-year-old woman there. Michael J. Grantz, 25, of Draper Street, was arrested by Mahoning County deputies about 4 p.m. Monday at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Youngstown. He faced an extradition hearing today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Grantz is accused of rape and sexual assault. Dave Stefanucci, Meadville assistant police chief, said Grantz approached the woman Oct. 18 outside a house party near the Arch Street apartment where he once lived. He took her to his apartment and raped her, Stefanucci said, adding the two are acquaintances.
Dem group to meet
POLAND -- Democrats of the 17th District, a Mahoning Valley political organization, will meet tonight at 7:30 in Poland Community Baseball Association hall on Sheridan Road.
Shooting reported
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 22-year-old man who was chased and fired upon by two men at his East Side home told police the attack may be related to the murder of a man found burned to death in a car in Crandall Park last week. The man was going in the back door of his Lansdowne Avenue residence about 3:30 a.m. Monday when he heard someone approach from behind and saw two strangers. He ran as the men fired about six shots.
Man fights off intruder
CAMPBELL -- A 75-year-old Sanderson Avenue man told police he successfully fought off an intruder who attacked him as he slept on his couch, only to discover his 3-month-old Chihuahua was stolen. The man said he was jumped and punched by a man demanding money about 11:15 p.m. Monday.
The man said he hit the attacker on the head with a TV tray.
