TGIF meets
YOUNGSTOWN -- TGIF, an alternative to the bar scene, offers a variety of Christian artists, including New Beginnings Praise Team, Infinite (rap), Simply Real (male singing group), The Warriors (rap) and Wayne Davis (poetry).
TGIF starts at 8 p.m. Friday in New Beginnings Outreach Ministries, 322 Wick Ave. The event is sponsored by Protestant Campus Ministry at Youngstown State University.
It's open to individuals 16 and older with identification. TGIF is free to current YSU students. Guests are $3 before 10 p.m., $5 after 10 p.m.
Lenten performance
WARREN -- The Trumbull Area Lutheran Coalition is presenting a Lenten performance of Gabriel Faure's Requiem at 4 p.m. Sunday in Emanuel Lutheran Church, Warren.
The choir is composed of selected members of several area Lutheran churches and will be directed by John W. Kurtz, director of music at Living Lord Lutheran Church, Howland. Lee Ann Anderson will play the harp, and the Rev. Timothy Mentzer, the pastor of Living Lord, will play the organ. Before the Requiem, Anderson and the pastor will give a recital for harp and organ.
Community day
YOUNGSTOWN --A "Community Guest Day" will be March 23 in Temple Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church. Events include: Prayer meeting, 8:30 a.m.; Sabbath School, 9:15 a.m.; lesson study, 10 a.m.; and divine worship, 11 a.m. After worship, there will be a dinner and a play.
Former mediumto speak out
NEW WATERFORD -- Ben Alexander, author of "Out From Darkness," will detail experiences from when he was a spiritualist medium at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. April 7, and at 7 p.m. April 8 at Lake Mount Church of Christ.
35th anniversary
STRUTHERS -- The Rev. Ralph Burton is celebrating his 35th anniversary as pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church. There will be a pastor's appreciation dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman. Call (330) 755-9675 for tickets.
Youth choir to perform
GIRARD -- Girard First United Methodist Church will have an Easter celebration featuring its youth club choir when it presents a spring musical, "Jailhouse Rock," at 10:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday.
Conference under way
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Morning Star Ministries will present Breakthrough 2002: Signs, Wonders and Miracles at 7 p.m. today and Sunday. The guest speaker will be revivalist Bruce Ladebu of Meadville, Pa.
Presentation set
CORTLAND -- Cyril Gordon, speaking on behalf of Jews for Jesus, will discuss what the Jewish Passover and Jesus' Last Supper have in common during a presentation called "Christ in the Passover" at 7 p.m. March 26 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Using a display of traditional Passover accouterments, the presentation enhances the Christian understanding of the Jewish background of the Christian Communion.
