From now on, just call it Delphi Corp.

TROY, Mich. -- Delphi Automotive Systems is changing its name to reflect its movement toward supplying makers of computers, telephones and other nonautomotive equipment.
The Michigan-based company said Friday its new name is Delphi Corp. Products will be marketed under the name Delphi.
"While we remain very focused on our automotive business, removing the 'Automotive Systems' descriptor from our name will allow us to approach nonautomotive customers with a name that stands for a leader in technological innovation in many markets," said J.T. Battenberg, Delphi chairman, chief executive and president.
Delphi had been part of General Motors Corp. until 1999, when it was spun off as a separate company.
What's behind this: Most of its business remains automotive related, but it has moved into new markets such as aerospace, medical and entertainment. Products for these markets include connection systems, sensors and electronic controls.
One of Delphi's divisions is locally based Delphi Packard Electric Systems, which makes wiring and related components. It employs about 6,600 hourly and salaried workers in the Warren area.
