Brains on display
Fourth-grade pupils in Mahoning and Trumbull counties will have the opportunity to see and feel real brains during presentations next week by faculty members from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown.
The programs will be at 1:45 p.m. Monday in C.H. Campbell Elementary School in Canfield and at 9 a.m. Friday in Bazetta Elementary School in Bazetta.
The "brain lectures" offer pupils the chance to see and feel brains of different species, including those of a frog, monkey, sheep, human and a mystery brain, as well as interact with neuroscientists.
The pupils will learn about general brain function, including vision, reaction time, memory and the ways in which humans learn.
The week of March 17 is National Brain Awareness Week.
