NILES -- Police are investigation the robbery of a West Farmington woman Thursday evening in the parking lot outside Ruby Tuesday at the Eastwood Mall. The woman and two other women were walking to their cars about 9:45 p.m. when a man wearing a ski mask walked up to them, pulled a gun and demanded their purses. Two of the women, of Warren and Kinsman, ran for help. The man stuck the gun into the side of the West Farmington woman and said, "I will kill you. Please give me your purse." She complied and he fled, getting into a car that was parked by Kaufmann's.
3 face drug charges
WARREN -- Three people are charged in Warren Municipal Court with drug offenses stemming from a six-month investigation involving the Trumbull County Drug Task Force, Niles police narcotics unit and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' Youngstown office. Greg Brown of Idylwild Street is charged with possession of drugs, and Gail Ellsworth of Maple Avenue, Niles, and Marshawn Jackson, Federal Street, each are charged with complicity. No ages were available.
The three were arrested early Wednesday at the Scottish Inn, U.S. Route 422. Charges were filed Thursday. Authorities said suspected crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and money also were taken from the motel room.
Two other people were arrested at the Park Inn in Niles as part of the same investigation. Police said management at both hotels cooperated with authorities.
Damage to vehicles
WARREN -- Three people told police that someone threw objects at their vehicles when they drove under the overpass at Warren Boulevard. All three said they were driving in that area around 6 p.m. Thursday. Minor damage was done to the vehicles, but no injuries were reported. Reports do not state what was thrown at the vehicles. No arrests were made.
District seeks grant
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield School District has submitted five projects to the Ohio School Facilities Commission for consideration for a $183,000 grant under the federal emergency repairs program.
District treasurer Angela Lewis said the district is hoping that at least one or two of the projects is picked for a grant. Lewis added that the district is also actively looking for other funds for school projects.
The grants being sought would pay for: replacing storm sewers in the parking lot and driveway area around the high school; heating and ventilation repairs districtwide; replacing the barrel roof over the gym and multipurpose room at the middle school; adding handicapped accessiblity and a concrete entryway at Seaborn Elementary School; and replacing three classroom floors at the middle school.
Ward meeting planned
WARREN -- City Councilman Bob Holmes III will hold a ward meeting at 6 p.m. April 5 at North Perk coffee shop on North Park Avenue. Discussion will include road repairs, citizens' problems and complaints and legislation before council regarding a storm-water management program. For questions, call Holmes at (330) 392-4438.
Board OKs permit
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals approved a conditional-use permit for BP Oil Co. to operate a Subway store at the site of a Blimpies in the BP Gas station at Salt Springs Road and West Liberty Street.
The approval of a conditional-use permit is a formality since the Blimpies, at 2720 Salt Springs Road, is also being operated under a conditional-use permit.
Liquor-law chargesCOLUMBUS -- The Ohio Investigative Unit -- the division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety responsible for liquor law enforcement -- has announced two Masury license holders were convicted recently of selling beer to someone under age 21 on Oct. 18. The sites are Standard Market, 8171 Warren-Sharon Road, N.E., whose license holder is Mary Helen Defrank, and Penn-Ohio Citgo and Drive Thru, 868 S. Irvine Ave.
