Women's golf teambeats Ball State
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Youngstown State rolled to a 337-359 victory over Ball State in a dual meet.
Leading the Penguins was Nichole Hamstreek, who shot 82. Senior Stephanie Matasek added 83, Jennifer Grossi 84, while Lori Hatcher and Gina Abruzzino each fired rounds of 88.

The National Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame, Mahoning Valley chapter, will hold its monthly dinner meeting on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Kernon's Cafe, 720 Youngstown-Warren Rd.

LAKE MILTON -- Dave Pecchio of Austintown made a hole-in-one recently at the Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course.
Pecchio aced the 125-yard No. 17 hole using a 9-iron. He was playing in a foursome that included Al Pazoly, Jimi McGall and Ken Jones.

NILES -- X Marks the Spot won the team event of the 64th city tournament at McKinley Lanes recently.
X was composed of Robert L. Scott, Joshua A. Scott, Joel A. Scott, Dave Rudy Jr. and Dave Rudy Sr. The team's pinfall was 3,580. The runner-up team was Flower Alternative with 3,503.
The team of Craig Cameron and Mike Bell rolled 1,500 to win doubles while Scott F. Smith's 838 earned him the singles title. Tony Lawrence claimed all-events handicap with 2194 while Todd Eyer had the highest all-events actual score of 2,092.

Padres' Darrdrunk at death
PHOENIX -- San Diego Padres outfielder Mike Darr was legally drunk when he died in a rollover accident hours before the start of spring training last month, authorities said.
Darr and Duane Johnson were killed Feb. 15 when the SUV the 25-year-old player was driving crashed near the Padres' spring training complex in Peoria, Ariz.
Darr's blood-alcohol level was 0.11 percent, said Officer Frank Valenzuela, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The state's legal limit is 0.08.
Strawberrykicked out
TAMPA, Fla. -- Darryl Strawberry was kicked out of a drug-treatment center and sent to jail for repeatedly breaking program rules, including a ban on sex between residents, according to court documents.
The former baseball star had many behavior problems at Phoenix House near Ocala, a state Corrections Department report said. Strawberry told his probation officer Tuesday he had sex with a female resident three days earlier.
Sampras ragged,but still wins
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Pete Sampras, his overall game a bit ragged but his serve still sharp, beat Albert Costa 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of the Pacific Life Open.
Martina Hingis and Monica Seles won to move into a showdown in the semifinals. Hingis downed Amanda Coetzer 6-1, 6-2. Seles beat Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
In other men's matches, second-seeded Yevgeny Kafelnikov defeated Fernando Vicente 6-3, 7-6 (4); and Todd Martin beat fifth-seeded Tommy Haas 6-4, 6-2.
Gamache suesover injuries
BANGOR, Maine -- Former world champion Joey Gamache is suing the New York State Athletic Commission for $5.5 million over injuries from a knockout by Arturo Gatti in February 2000.
The lawsuit alleges that state Athletic Commissioner Tony Russo knew prior to the fight's weigh-in that Gatti exceeded the 141-pound limit, but allowed the fight to go forward anyway.

OSLO, Norway -- Norway is taking the International Olympic Committee to a world sports court to demand that all medals be withdrawn from athletes caught for doping in Salt Lake City.
The Norwegians claim the charter says any athlete caught cheating at a games should forfeit all medals.
