TRUMBULL COUNTY Warren man sentenced in robbery case

The judge said during sentencing that the defendant has shown no genuine remorse.
WARREN -- A 28-year-old Warren man convicted on two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of felonious assault and tampering with evidence has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Judge W. Wyatt McKay said during Wednesday's sentencing in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court that the sentence is longer because Charles "CJ" Williams has served four prior prison sentences for similar crimes and has not responded favorably.
"The defendant is a career criminal," the judge said.
"The defendant poses the greatest likelihood of committing future crimes and has shown no genuine remorse."
Williams, who declined to comment, was convicted of the charges last month after a weeklong trial.
"I am very, very pleased with this sentence," said assistant prosecutor Diane Barber. "I think it's important to note that Detectives Gary Vingle and Dewey Gray did excellent work on this case."
What happened: The case stems from a Sept. 29 robbery of Dairy Mart on North Park Avenue.
Police said Williams shot the cashier in the arm.
The jury also found Williams guilty of the Oct. 2 robbery of the North Leavitt Road Dairy Mart but acquitted him in the Oct. 2 robbery of GEM Food Mart on Summit Street.
The jury also found that Williams was guilty of tampering with evidence because he asked friends and relatives to throw away some of his clothing so police could not link them to the crimes.
