YOUNGSTOWN -- Three hundred pupils from 25 area schools will bombard Beeghly Center at Youngstown State University on Saturday for the 24th annual Physics Olympics. The pupils, from Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania, take part in competition that tests their knowledge of physics. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., pupils are judged on 12 events, which include an egg-drop contest, bridge building, flying machines, mousetrap racers, hot water making, a ping-pong ball launch and a rubber band boat.
A highlight each year is the "mystery problem." Pupils are told only the topic of the problem ahead of time, with no specifics. The event is open to the public.
