Manufacturer is sued over worker's death

LISBON -- A dump-trailer manufacturer is being sued overi an accident that killed a man in Columbiana County last year.
Larry Lacher filed the suit recently in county common pleas court against East Manufacturing Corp. of Randolph.
Lacher is executor of the estate of Daniel Lacher, 43, of Alliance. The lawsuit does not state the relationship between the two men.
Daniel Lacher was killed in February 2001 while he was operating a dump truck that was unloading material at a licensed landfill on state Route 45 south of West Point in Madison Township, according to the suit.
The lawsuit states that the truck's dump trailer was either manufactured or assembled, or both, by East Manufacturing.
When the trailer's hydraulic lift mechanism was extended to raise the dump bed, the mechanism broke apart, allowing the bed to crash onto the trailer's cab, killing Lacher, the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit alleges that the dump trailer was defective and that East was negligent. The suit seeks $8 million in damages and costs.
A company spokesman was unavailable to comment.
