CANFIELD
U Awarded a bid for the Clearview Drive storm water management project to CTC Excavating of Boardman. CTC's bid of $131,055 was the lowest of 14 bids for the project, funded by the Ohio Public Works Commission.
HUBBARD
U Received a state Issue II grant to reconstruct and widen Lincoln Avenue. The $212,900 project combines $66,000 in township funds with $147,000 in grants from Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.
U Announced they have applied to the Community Development Block Grant program for $19,000 in state and federal funds to resurface Mason and Trumbull avenues.
U Adopted a policy requiring all township personnel and agents to have a photo identification card.
U Moved to apply jointly with Hubbard city for a 2002 tire recycling grant of $4,520.
U Hired Michael J. Pagley as a reserve police officer.
U Moved to send the Trumbull County prosecutor a letter requesting assistance in the bankruptcy of Classic Cable Co., which is still collecting franchise fees from the township.
U Authorized the clerk to pay $1,250 to Animal Charity of Youngstown for animal control services and $1,500 to the start-up fund of the Joint Economic Development District with the city.
U Accepted the resignation of Patrick Donlin, a member of the planning and zoning commission, because he is moving out of the township.
U Discussed the desirability, feasibility and methodology of providing public water to township residents.
U Discussed providing ambulance and emergency services through the city-township volunteer fire department.
BOARDS OF EDUCATION
LAKEVIEW
U Accepted the following donations: $2,282 from Lakeview Booster Club to the boys athletic club; $20 from patrons and $100 from the Republic Steel Salary Retiree Association to the choir; $4,161 from Cortland Chamber of Commerce to the Senior Beta Club; and $1,000 from the Lakeview Academic Boosters for Cortland Elementary School.
U Announced the following teacher retirements at the end of the school year: Dennis Gartlan, business; John Sheridan, industrial arts; Bert Strobl, technology; Jeff Terlecky, health and physical education; Nancy Rising, second grade; and Carolyn Urcheck, fourth grade.
U Approved the 2002-03 school calendar; classes start Aug. 26.
U Recognized the fifth- and sixth-grade elementary prep bowl team, which won the 2002 Trumbull County Prep Bowl Tournament in January. Members of the undefeated team were: Laren Baker, Michael Benich, Grace Brantingham, Dylan Davis, Steve Lane, Paul Monroe, Mike Stewart and Trevor Wilson. Danita Davis and William Imke were the advisers.
U Approved the 2002-03 high school course of study. Advanced Placement English for juniors will be expanded, with Advanced Placement English for seniors and Advanced Social Studies to come in the future.
U Heard board member Larry Swiger, who represents Lakeview on the Trumbull County Career and Technical Center board, how the tax millage that supports TCTC works. He noted that Lakeview has the second-largest number of students at TCTC. Warren has the most.
VILLAGE COUNCILS
LISBON
U Met Monday and approved providing dispatching services for the Salineville Police Department for $300 a month. The deal saves Salineville $300 a month because the Columbiana County Sheriff's Department would have charged $600 a month for the service. A two-year contract between the two villages will be drawn up, according to Lisbon clerk treasurer Tracey Wonner.
U Approved buying five surge protectors for the village's well fields. A power surge Feb. 27 damaged two starters on well pumps. The starters cost $960 each. The surge protectors will cost $560 each and would prevent similar occurrences.
U Decided to contract out for mowing services for the village's parks, the square, and other village property. Wonner said areas to be mowed would be shown to those interested March 19, with a bid submission deadline of March 26.
