YOUNGSTOWN -- A Tacoma Avenue man discovered two bullet holes in the rear hatch of his 1997 Plymouth Voyager around 11:15 a.m. Monday. The window on the passenger-side door was also shot.
Police reports say the man secured his vehicle around 3:30 a.m. When he returned to his van after waking, he discovered the damage.
$950 bank loss
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating a series of inaccurate transactions made at Farmers National Bank, 3619 S. Meridian Road.
Police reports say several inaccurate transactions, resulting in a $950 bank loss, were made between Jan. 15 and Feb. 2, 2002.
All of the inaccurate transactions were made at the window of a 31-year-old teller who hasn't reported to work since Feb. 2. The teller also has failed to return calls.
The inaccurate transactions were made during a variety of transactions -- deposits as well as the issuance of bank checks.
Sheridan Block Watch
YOUNGSTOWN -- Members of Youngstown City Council's Safety Committee will speak at Monday's meeting of the Sheridan Block Watch. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Clearmount and Hudson avenues.
Anti-tobacco panel
COLUMBUS -- High school students wanting to take a stand against tobacco have until Thursday to apply for membership on a 50-to-60-member teen advisory panel that will design a youth-oriented anti-tobacco advertising and marketing campaign.
Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation panel members must be available to participate in a planning summit in Columbus the weekend of April 20 and 21 and willing to make an ongoing commitment. Youths may apply online at the program's Web site, www.standonline.org. Successful applicants will be notified by March 22. The effort is funded through the health-related lawsuit settlement between the major tobacco companies and 46 states, including Ohio.
Discussing sewer line
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield Township trustees will have a public meeting with Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer Joe Warino to discuss a sewer line project. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. March 19 at the township building on South Range Road. The sewer line will extend from Western Reserve Road to a sewer plant on Unity Road.
Missing items
YOUNGSTOWN -- The operator of a Sheridan Road group home reported several personal items missing from a resident's room around 4 p.m. Monday.
Police reports say a portable CD player with head phones, a videocassette of the movie "Fantasia," a lady's purple sweater and pants, and a box of adult-size disposable undergarments were discovered missing around noon Saturday. The home's operator reported the theft Monday.
Car stolen at jail
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Struthers man told police his car was stolen while it was parked at the Mahoning County Jail on Sunday afternoon.
Police reports say the 91-year-old man was at the jail around 4 p.m. Sunday to post bond for an inmate. When he returned to the parking area, his 1999 Ford Escort was missing. The man's nephew reported the theft to police Monday.
Officers honored
HUBBARD -- Three Hubbard Township police officers were recognized Monday by township trustees for preventing a man from jumping off an overpass onto Interstate 80. Recognized for their March 4 actions were patrol officers Craig Callow, Chris Jacobs and Rick Wells. The three stopped an 18-year-old Woodbine Avenue man from jumping off a bridge along state Route 304 after his car was stopped because it was weaving, according to reports.
