Teen dies in accident
VIENNA -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Southington Post is investigating a weekend accident in which a teen-ager died. The patrol said Joshua Rangel, 18, of Smith-Stewart Road, was driving east on Niles-Vienna Road about 5 a.m. Sunday when he traveled left of center, overcorrected and slid off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole. There were no passengers in Rangel's car, the patrol said. Rangel was not wearing a seat belt and authorities are not sure yet whether the weekend storm contributed to the accident.
Wind damages firetruck
VIENNA -- High wind is blamed for damage to a township firetruck Saturday. Firefighters were heading to a chimney fire in Fowler Township, traveling about 8 p.m. along King Graves Road, when the truck caught a big gust of wind. Fire department officials said the truck blew off the road and into a ditch. Winds at the time were measured up to 65 mph, said Mike Hagood, assistant fire chief.
Two firefighters had minor injuries and were treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The truck, which has a 160-foot wheelbase and is worth around $280,000, is undrivable and suffered major damage in the crash, Hagood said. It is insured.
