YOUNGSTOWN -- Police recovered two 9 mm bullets and one spent shell casing at a Kenmore Avenue home after several shots were fired into the residence from the street. A 30-year-old man told police that someone fired five or six shots into his home around 1:40 p.m. Sunday. One round came through the front of the house, passed through the screen of a 46-inch TV and lodged in a wall. Another round passed through a stereo cabinet and lodged between the cabinet and a CD player.
One spent shell casing was recovered in the street. Police reports say the resident did not see the shooter's vehicle and could not offer any suspect information.
Counterfeit $10 bill
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police confiscated a counterfeit $10 bill at Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, 1990 McCartney Road, after a customer said she was given the funny money in her change.
The woman told police she had gone through the KFC drive-through around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and received the $10 bill in her change. She later discovered the currency to be counterfeit and returned to the fast-food restaurant to inform the manager. The manager confirmed that the bill was counterfeit but could not confirm that it had been passed at KFC.
Robbed at gunpoint
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 43-year-old Joseph Street man told police he was robbed at gunpoint as he walked along his street around 9:35 p.m. Friday. The man told police a black Ford Taurus headed west on Joseph passed him and then turned around and stopped. A passenger then got out and demanded money. The victim stated he didn't have any money. Then, someone inside the car fired a gun and the passenger again asked for money. After he handed over $38, the victim said another shot was fired from inside the suspects' car, shattering a window in the victim's car, which was parked nearby.
West Side meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- West Side Citizens' League Inc. will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at West Elementary School cafeteria. A public hearing on block grant money will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Mahoning County Commissioner Ed Reese will discuss county government from 8 to 9 p.m.
Pond clinic planned
CANFIELD -- Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District, in cooperation with Mill Creek MetroParks, will have a pond clinic from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 21 at the park system's farm on state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fairgrounds. Experts will address issues such as stocking and weed control. Kevin Swope from the Mahoning SWCD will discuss the construction of ponds and the part SWCD can play in that construction.
The clinic is open to the public and there is no charge; however, reservations are required. Call Mahoning SWCD at (330) 533-2231 by March 19 to reserve a spot. Light refreshments will be served.
Hearing scheduled
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township Zoning Board of Appeals will have a hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday to consider a Beaver Alley business owner's request to construct a drive-through. The hearing will be at the township administration building at 11999 South Ave. Extension.
