NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield Township trustees will have a public meeting with Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer Joe Warino to discuss a sewer line project. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. March 19 at the township building on South Range Road. The sewer line will extend from Western Reserve Road to a sewer plant on Unity Road.
Safety forces' pact

Hearing scheduled
NORTH LIMA -- The Beaver Township Zoning Board of Appeals will conduct a hearing to consider a Beaver Alley business owner's request to construct a drive-through. The hearing will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the township administration building 11999 South Ave. Extension.
Sentenced to prison
PITTSBURGH -- A Greenville man was sentenced in federal court to 27 months in prison and five years' supervised release on his conviction of submitting a false loan application to a federally insured financial institution. John J. Lockovich, 54, of Lancaster Street, was also ordered to pay $32,923.21 in restitution. According to information presented in court, between Oct. 29, 1999, and March 31, 2000, Lockovich submitted three loan applications to Laurel Bank and two loan applications to Diamond Credit Union that contained material misrepresentations. Those misrepresentations included a false Social Security number and that he falsely contended he had never filed for bankruptcy, according to prosecutors. Lockovich was sentenced Friday by Senior United States District Judge Alan N. Bloch.
2 pose as employees
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said two men posing as employees of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation tried to enter the homes of elderly people in southern Lawrence County. Police said one man tried to lure the elderly homeowner outside early last week. Police said a similar occurrence happened in northern Beaver County. Residents are encouraged to ask for identification from anyone claiming to be a service or utility company employee and contact any company before allowing anyone to enter their home or going outside with someone to check property lines or cut trees.
Pond clinic planned
CANFIELD -- Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District, in cooperation with Mill Creek MetroParks, will have a pond clinic from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 21 at the park system's farm on state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Experts will address issues such as stocking and weed control. Kevin Swope from the Mahoning SWCD will discuss the construction of ponds and the part SWCD can play in that construction.
The clinic is open to the public and there is no charge, however, reservations are required. Call Mahoning SWCD at (330) 533-2231 by March 19 to reserve a spot. Light refreshments will be served.
