CLEVELAND -- Jamie Rubis scored 16 of her 19 points in the second half as Kent State captured its third Mid-American Conference tournament title in the last five years.
Trailing 45-40 in the second half, the Golden Flashes (20-10) held the Cardinals (23-7) without a field goal for more than 10 minutes to take a 65-47 lead.
Andrea Csaszar, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, sealed off the lane and forced Ball State to go outside for its points. Csaszar totaled six blocked shots and 13 rebounds to go with 17 points and was chosen as the tournament's most valuable player.
Rubis put the game away with a cross-court steal that resulted in a three-point play for a 59-46 lead with 4:28 to go. The Cardinals never threatened again.
Johna Goff scored 18 points, Shala Crook had 12 and Tamara Bowie added 10 for Ball State, which now must await whether it will bet a bid to either the NCAA or Women's National Invitation Tournament.
No. 8 Louisiana Tech 53, Hawaii 50
TULSA, Okla. -- Amber Obaze scored 16 points and made two big baskets in the closing minutes as Louisiana Tech rallied to beat Hawaii in the championship of the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Cheryl Ford scored 15 and Ayana Walker had 14 for the Lady Techsters (25-4), who picked up the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning their 20th straight conference tournament game.
Norfolk St. 61, Hampton 52
RICHMOND, Va. -- Lawanda Newman scored 14 points and sparked a late 8-0 run, lifting Norfolk State to a victory against Hampton in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament championship. The third-seeded Spartans (22-8) beat their instate rivals for the second time in a week and earned the league's automatic NCAA tournament bid, the first for the school since it moved up from Division II for the 1997 season.
Creighton 77, Drake 74
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Christy Neneman scored a career-high 39 points to lead Creighton over Drake in the championship game of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. Neneman, a sophomore guard, scored 23 points in the second half as the Bluejays (23-7) withstood a late rally by Creighton (24-6). Carla Bennett led Drake with 21 points and Erin Richards added 15.
Georgia St. 64, Florida Atlantic 63
TROY, Ala. -- Holly Coates followed a missed shot with 1.4 seconds remaining to lift Georgia State past Florida Atlantic for the Atlantic Sun championship. The Panthers (21-9) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to secure the league's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. Kara Edwards led Georgia State with 24 points, while Evita Rogers had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
No. 4 Oklahoma 84, No. 7 Baylor 69
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Stacey Dales scored 25 points as fourth-ranked Oklahoma (27-3) won its first Big 12 Conference tournament championship and an NCAA berth. Rosalind Ross had 16 points, LaNeishea Caufield 15, Caton Hill 12 and Dionnah Jackson had 11 for the Sooners. Sheila Lambert added 15 points for the Bears (26-5).
No. 15 Old Dominion 76, N.C.-Wilmington 48
NORFOLK, Va. -- Myriah Spence scored 15 points and Hamchetou Maiga had 13, leading Old Dominion (25-5) in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship game. North Carolina-Wilmington (16-13) was led by Shameka Montgomery with 11 points.
UC Santa Barbara 64, Pacific 53
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Kayte Christensen scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half to lead UC Santa Barbara over Pacific in the championship game of the Big West Conference tournament. Lindsay Taylor, the tournament MVP, added 12 points, eight rebounds, and four steals for the Gauchos (25-5).
Hartford 50, Stony Brook 47
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Kelly Ann Charles scored all six of her points in the final 31/2 minutes, including the go-ahead basket, and Hartford won the America East Conference tournament. Dorcas Miller and Kenitra Johnson had 15 points apiece for the Hawks.
Southern U. 69, Alabama St. 56
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jacklyn Winfield scored 32 points, hitting 7-of-10 3-pointers, as Southern (26-4) won its first Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament championship.
St. Francis, Pa. 74, Long Island U. 53
LORETTO, Pa. -- Karen Hewitt scored a career-high 22 points as St. Francis (19-11) won the Northeast Conference. Hewitt also had nine assists and was named the conference tournament's most valuable player. Carlin Chesick and Tonjee Ward were also in double figures for the Red Flash, with 18 and 14 points respectively. Stec Angelika led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the field.
Stephen F. Austin 76, Northwestern St. 52
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Nathesia Wright scored 18 points and Jessica Guild added 17 as Stephen F. Austin won the Southland Conference and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the 15th consecutive year. Nicole Guild added 15 points and eight steals for the Ladyjacks (24-5). Latisha Prater had 12 points and 10 rebounds for SFA, and Amy Collins added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Brigham Young 61, UNLV 46
LAS VEGAS -- Melanie Pearson scored 15 points, and Brigham Young used a 25-3 run over a span of 10:46 to win the Mountain West Conference championship. Jennifer Leitner scored eight of her 12 points during the spurt for the Cougars (22-8), who earn an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament. It was BYU's third straight appearance in the conference championship, but first win in those games. Constance Jinks scored 19 points and Linda Frohlich had 11 for UNLV (23-7).
