MERCER, Pa. -- A Greenville man will serve prison time for biting a police officer and then fleeing while being arrested.
Rodney Hayes, 19, of Clarksville Street, bit Greenville police officer Paul Molton three times in the arm while Molton was trying to handcuff him July 29. Hayes then fled while being escorted to a police cruiser and was chased 200 yards before being apprehended.
Judge Michael Wherry of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Hayes to 12 to 30 months in prison for escape and to six to 12 months for simple assault, a misdemeanor. The terms will be served concurrently.
Theft: The judge sentenced Shawn Cantelupe, 22, of South Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, to consecutive terms on two misdemeanor counts stemming from a Sept. 20 theft. He was sentenced to nine to 60 months in prison for theft and two to 12 months for defiant trespass.
Cantelupe illegally entered a residence on South Myers Avenue, Sharon, and took pills, medical supplies, clothing, cigarettes and other items.
Others were also sentenced Friday:
UDebra Foore, 28, of 26 Kirkland Road, was placed on a two-year probation for indecent assault. She pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge for a July 13 incident in which she had indecent contact with a 13-year-old boy at her home.
ULonnie Patton, 48, of Idaho Street, Farrell, was sentenced to 30 days to 12 months in jail for misdemeanor simple assault and ordered to pay costs only on a disorderly conduct charge. On Oct. 10, Patton struck another man in the head two or three times during an argument at the Starlite Inn on South Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
UFrederick McCormick, 45, of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, was placed on a one-year probation for a misdemeanor escape charge and a misdemeanor charge of filing unsworn falsification.
McCormick's problems started when a dog warden came to his home last year to issue a citation because his two German shepherds were unlicensed. McCormick signed a fictitious name to the citation.
When awaiting a preliminary hearing Dec. 9 for using the alias, he fled from a Jefferson Township police officer. McCormick told officials he has given the dogs to a shelter.
