SANDY LAKE, Pa. -- Construction equipment will soon be rolling into the Lakeview Area School District.
Superintendent Dr. Paulette Savolskis said that, after more than three years in the planning, a major renovation project is scheduled to begin March 25.
School directors had first estimated they were looking at an $18 million price for the project, but in the past few months they cut $4 million from the bottom line by sticking to the "strictly needed" list, Savolskis said. The cost now is estimated at $14.7 million, she said.
Included in project: The first phase of the project includes work on the high school kitchen, the gymnasium and the industrial arts classroom, according to Savolskis. She said high school lunches will be prepared at the middle school, industrial arts classes will move to the auditorium and, as soon as it's warm enough, PE classes will move outside.
Contracts awarded for the project include:
UGeneral construction, $5.35 million, Marisco Corp., Allison Park, Pa.
UHeating, ventilation and air-conditioning, $2.34 million, Guy's Mechanical Systems, Rochester, Pa.
UPlumbing, $678,800, Shipley Plumbing, of Cranberry Township, Pa.

Savolskis said the district will also pay an estimated $2.98 million for insurance, asbestos removal and management, architectural fees, and computer hardware.
