JOHNSTON -- The township bicentennial committee is collecting historical artifacts for a display celebrating Johnston's 200th birthday in September 2003.
The items will be returned after being shown either at Maplewood East Elementary School or at the town hall during the celebration, said Judy Piontkowski, an organizer.
The next meeting of the bicentennial committee will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the town hall. Call Piontkowski at (330) 924-3583.
Scholarship banquet
NILES -- Grand Lodge of Ohio Sons of Italy will have its annual scholarship banquet Aug. 3 in Vernon's Banquet Center.
In addition to awarding college scholarships to students of Italian descent, the foundation supports charities such as Cooley's Anemia Foundation and Alzheimer's Association.
Ads for the banquet booklet range from $35 for a quarter page to $110 for a full page. Ads should be sent to Charles Burrelli, 3561 Kingston Lane, Youngstown 44511.
Indoor walking
CHAMPION -- The mall isn't the only place people can walk indoors for exercise.
The Trumbull County Technical and Career Center permits hall walking Monday through Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m.

Child safety training
HOWLAND -- Standardized child-passenger safety training will be given at the Howland Fire Department on May 2-3 and May 9-10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The fire department is at 169 Niles-Cortland Road N.E.
The training is for nurses, pediatricians, police officers, firefighters and health industry professionals.
Cost is $75. Class size is limited to 15. Registration deadline is April 26. Call (330) 884-4031.
