YOUNGSTOWN Four arrested as result of drug raid on city's North Side
Investigators found cocaine and heroin in the residence.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Four men were arrested on drug charges at a North Side house after a raid by Youngstown State University police, the city police vice squad and members of the Mahoning Valley Drug Task Force.
David Allen, task force commander, said several complaints had been received about the Park Avenue apartment, which is near areas where college students reside. He said the task force had placed a priority on the location because it is near the YSU campus. Sgt. Randy Williams of the YSU police force was the lead investigator, Allen said.
Officers found cocaine and heroin in the apartment during the raid at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Charged: David Newell, 54, of West Judson Ave., faces charges of drug trafficking and possession of drugs after officers found a bag of crack cocaine and two bags containing several packs of heroin near where Newell stood in a kitchen. He carried $1,570. Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly ordered bonds totaling $50,000 during a Friday arraignment in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Archie Morris, 46, of Roslyn Drive, faces charges of drug possession, drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence after police found him with his hand in a trash can. Officers found a large rock of suspected crack cocaine and a crack pipe in the trash can. He pleaded innocent to the misdemeanor paraphernalia charge. Judge Kobly ordered bonds totaling $20,000 on the drug charges and additional $5,000 bonds on unrelated outstanding drug paraphernalia and motor vehicle charges.
Foort Cook, 49, of Broadway Street, faces a drug possession charge after officers found a rock of crack cocaine in his pocket. Judge Kobly ordered a $25,000 cash or surety bond on the charges and an additional $1,000 bond on an unrelated outstanding assault charge.
Also arrested during the raid was Iverson Perry, 49, who resides at the apartment, on three warrants on trafficking in drugs based on a February indictment by a Mahoning County grand jury. Perry pleaded innocent Friday during arraignment in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, and Judge Robert G. Lisotto ordered bonds totaling $30,000.
