WARREN -- A Howland High School senior who pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing received a 10-day suspended jail sentence and was ordered to serve 30 hours of community service.
Michael Post, 18, of Castle Rock, entered the pleas Friday in the municipal courtroom of Judge Terry Ivanchak.
Post, a high school football player, declined to comment during the brief hearing.
Prosecutors said Post assaulted a John F. Kennedy High School freshman football player Nov. 13.
The judge also placed Post on two years' probation. The judge also ordered Post to have no contact with the victim and not to go to JFK unless he is participating in a school activity.
"You can only go to the school if you are actually participating," Judge Ivanchak said. "You can't go to watch."
The judge also pointed out that if Post "does everything he is supposed to do" and does not get in criminal trouble during his probationary period the criminal trespassing charge may be dismissed.
What happened: Police said Post went with a friend to JFK school on Central Parkway on Nov. 13. The two told the victim, Marlin Williamson, 14, that they were looking for the football team's quarterback, and Marlin then told school officials.
Police said a vice principal told the Howland students to leave, which they did.
Marlin told police that the two Howland teens followed a car in which he was a passenger. Marlin said when he got out of the car, he was assaulted by Post.
Kim Gunther, Marlin's mother, said her son was punched in the head and face.
Marlin was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Sean Unger, 18, Post's friend, also was arrested on a charge of criminal trespassing. He has pleaded innocent and his case is set for trial March 18 in Judge Ivanchak's courtroom.
