MERCER COUNTY 8 to run for Sharpsville school director post

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- The Sharpsville Area School Board has a list of eight candidates from which to choose a new school director.
The list includes a former school director in the district and some newcomers to politics.
Wednesday was the deadline for applications to fill the post left vacant by the resignation of Henry VanZanten, who stepped down last month citing work schedule conflicts. The appointee will serve the remaining 21 months of VanZanten's term.
The board, which has only eight members because of the VanZanten vacancy, has scheduled a meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday to interview the candidates and make its selection. A candidate must have five affirmative votes to be appointed.
Those who submitted letters of interest for the nonpaying job are:
UDarla Grandy of Laurel Drive.
UDiane Amsdell of Tamarack Drive.
ULinda Hanahan of South Seventh Street, who had previously sought appointment to a school board vacancy.
UGerard Hanley of Oak Street, a former Sharpsville school director.
UMichael Munger of Ridge Avenue.
UG. William Abernathy of Hall Avenue.
USam Kudelko Jr. of Kane Road.
UKimberly Barringer of Blue Jay Drive.
