Clerk reappointed
GIRARD -- Karen A. Constantino, former clerk of Girard Municipal Court, has been reappointed to the position by Judge Michael A. Bernard.
Constantino, who will be paid $42,000 annually, replaces Mary Jo Orr, who was paid $46,000 when she resigned in February.
Neither Judge Bernard nor Orr would give a reason for the Feb. 15 resignation.
Judge Bernard said he would not replace Orr for about a year to save money.
The judge could not be reached.
Constantino became a deputy clerk in 1977 and served as clerk of courts from 1985 to 1996. She said she doesn't anticipate any changes in staffing.
Constantino is a Girard native and 1972 graduate of Girard High School. She and her husband, William, have two children and four grandchildren.
Sex-crime case
WARREN -- A 62-year-old Brookfield man wants the court to dismiss his conviction on five counts of sexual battery and one count of corruption of a minor.
Atty. Dan Keating, who represents Robert Gibson of Albright-McKay Road, filed the motions this week stating there is no physical evidence to support the charges.
If the convictions are not dismissed, then Keating wants a new trial for Gibson.
Judge John Stuard of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court will rule on the motions in the next few weeks.
Gibson was convicted last month of charges that he had sexual contact with a teen-age girl he knows.
Aggravated burglary
WEATHERSFIELD -- A Niles man was in the Trumbull County jail this morning, accused of aggravated burglary and resisting arrest. Township police received a call about 10:40 p.m. Thursday from an Arlington Avenue man saying someone was trying to break into his home. The man told the dispatcher someone had gotten in and was attacking him before the line was disconnected. When police arrived, they heard a muffled scream inside and saw a door that appeared to be kicked in. They found Dominic V. Vigorito sitting on top of the caller in a bedroom. The caller told police Vigorito, who is his nephew, was trying to smother him. Vigorito, 30, of Difford Drive, became aggressive with officers, police said. He was to appear in Niles Municipal Court today, Chief Joe Consiglio said.
