Browns Boosters
GIRARD -- The Ohio Browns Boosters will have a membership meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at the Creekside Golf Dome. Current members and anyone who wants to become one are encouraged to attend this informational meeting. Draft day and other topics will be discussed.
Allison Brager setsschool record
KENT -- Allison Brager won the pole vault with a school-record clearance of 7 feet, 6 1/2 inches, to highlight the Boardman High girls indoor track team's performances in the Kent State High School Indoor Meet.
Brager, a junior, broke her school record of 6-6 that she had set on Feb. 22.
Senior Ashley Kohler was runner-up in the shot put (35-4), while freshman teammate Brooke Katzman was fifth (30-9).
Sophomore Kristen Laver took fourth in the high jump (4-8), while Karen Zolka also was fourth in the long jump (14-5 3/4).
Another fourth went to the 3,200 relay team (10:58.5). Members were seniors Gina Mavrikis and Melissa Davner and juniors Kristen Agnew and Robyn Repko.
Mark Presjnar helpsMt. Union win title
ALLIANCE -- Mark Presjnar of Poland won the 3,200-meter run in a meet-record time of 9 minutes, 23.34 seconds, to help the Mount Union College men's indoor track team capture the Ohio Athletic Conference championship.
Presjnar, a senior from Poland High, also was a member of the winning 4x800 relay (7:50.68). Joining him were senior Dave Benson, also from Poland, and sophomores Ryan Hochstetler and Joe Eby.
Mount Union compiled 109 points to win the meet while MU's women won with 98 points.
Two Titans receivehonors from PAC
NEW WILMINGTON -- Two Youngstown-area basketball players for Westminster College, Robin Thayer and Greg Foster, received Presidents' Athletic Conference Coaches Honors.
Thayer, a senior guard for the Titans from South Range High, led the team in scoring (14.2 points per game) for the fourth consecutive year. She also became Westminster's all-time career scoring leader with 1,287 points.
Foster, a junior center for the men's team from Girard High, led the Titans in rebounding (8.0 average) and block shots (37).
PAC Coaches Honors were awarded to Westminster athletes in place of all-conference honors, until the school completes its three-year reclassification from NCAA Division II to Div. III at the end of the current school year.
Justin Miller of B-Wqualifies for meet
BEREA -- Justin Miller, a sophomore on the Baldwin-Wallace College indoor track team from Austintown Fitch High, qualified in the 55-meter hurdles for the NCAA Division III National Championships Friday and Saturday at Ohio Northern University.
Miller qualified with a career-best time of 7.68 seconds last Saturday at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, good for first place.
His time ranked 10th nationally in final qualifying.
Miller will compete in his preliminary heat Friday night.

Tressel still mullingpenalties for Arden
IRONTON -- Ohio State freshman linebacker Redgie Arden will serve three days in jail and pay a $500 fine after pleading guilty to drunken driving.
Arden must take part in a three-day drug- and alcohol-awareness program after pleading guilty in Ironton Municipal Court on Monday.
Ohio State also requires that Arden undergo random drug and alcohol testing and counseling sessions.
Spokesman Steve Snapp said coach Jim Tressel would make a decision later on whether Arden will face team penalties.

Jeffries Big Ten player of the year
PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Indiana sophomore Jared Jeffries was named the Big Ten player of the year Tuesday by both conference coaches and media.
Wisconsin's Bo Ryan was named coach of the year after leading the Badgers to a share of their first Big Ten title in 55 years in his first season.
Joining Jeffries on both the coaches and media's first team were Frank Williams of Illinois, last year's player of the year; Brian Brown of Ohio State; Kirk Penney of Wisconsin; and Marcus Taylor of Michigan State.
Minnesota's Rick Rickert was named top freshman and Minnesota's Travarus Bennett shared defensive honors with Indiana's Dane Fife.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Colorado Rockies manager Buddy Bell returned to the team, five days after leaving spring training for follow-up tests on the back surgery he underwent Dec. 11.
