HUBBARD City council

Highlights of Monday's city council meeting:
Mayor George Praznik reported that work will begin when the weather breaks to replace the Myron Street electric line. The line failed Saturday, causing a power outage. Praznik asserted that the line was not properly installed by a private contractor in 1991. He has ordered Joseph Slick, superintendent of the lighting department, to order parts to replace the line, using city workers for labor.
Councilman John Marshall, D-2nd, chairman of council's park and recreation committee, reported that the park and recreation commission is not interested in pursuing a dome-type community youth center at city-owned Waugh Field. The proposal had been discussed at a commission meeting by a group known as Hubbard Area Youth Sports, Education and Economic Development, or HAYSEED. Residents around the field have complained they don't want a dome in their neighborhood.
Robert Paterniti, safety director, reported that a levy would be required to support the establishment of an ambulance service in the city and Hubbard Township. No action was taken.
Councilman Raymond Farcas, D-at large, requested that the law director prepare legislation to accept the annexation of Deer Creek Golf Course from the township into the city. Trumbull County commissioners approved the annexation in December.
