AUSTINTOWN 25-year-old man dies after he's pulled over

AUSTINTOWN -- A 25-year-old Austintown man died early this morning after he was pulled over by township police for a traffic stop.
A powdery white substance was found on the man's shirt, nose and mouth, and suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in his car, police said.
Police are not identifying the man pending notification of his family.
Short chase: The man was pulled over after a short police chase. While on routine patrol at 2:16 a.m., an officer saw the man's vehicle leaving a business in the 3100 block of Canfield-Niles Road, which was closed at the time.
After running the car's license plate, the officer learned that the vehicle's owner was driving under suspension, police said.
The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused, police said. Other officers arrived and stopped the vehicle on Kirk Road, west of Turner Road. The average speed of the chase was 28 mph, police said.
Police said the man was polite when he was taken to the police station. After a few minutes, the man began to act erratically, and paramedics were called, police said.
The man fell over in a police interview room when the ambulance crew arrived, police said.
The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown by ambulance. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:29 a.m.
Suspected drugs: In the man's car, police said, they found a bag containing suspected marijuana, another bag containing suspected cocaine, and a marijuana pipe.
The death is being investigated by the Mahoning County Coroner's Office, which will conduct an autopsy.
