Man seriously hurt in Lisbon assault

Thursday, June 27, 2002

LISBON -- Authorities are still investigating a weekend assault that left a Sebring man seriously injured.
The 30-year-old man said he was attacked by nearly 15 men about 3 a.m. Sunday, Columbiana County Sheriff Department Lt. Jerry Herbert said Wednesday. It's unclear whether the attack occurred outside a residence along Woodsdale Road in the Guilford Lake area, or on adjoining property, Herbert said.
A party was taking place at the residence, and some partygoers were parking on the adjoining property.
The man said he was kicked and punched after another group of men overheard a remark he made, Herbert said without elaborating.
After the assault, the man was taken to a friend's house, where he remained until about 11 a.m., when a friend took him to Salem Community Hospital.
After examining him, hospital officials had him transferred to Aultman Hospital in Canton.
The man was in guarded condition this morning in Aultman's intensive care unit.
