Discussing ground zero
LIBERTY -- Congregation Children of Israel and the Jewish Community Relations Council will sponsor an evening with Rabbi Craig Miller at 7 p.m. July 7 at Congregation Children of Israel on Logan Way. The entrance is in back of Temple El Emeth.
A program specialist with the Jewish Community Relations Council in New York City, Rabbi Miller spent two months serving as a chaplain at the site of the World Trade Center tragedy. His presentation will focus on his service as a chaplain at ground zero.
Rabbi Miller's visit comes at the period of mourning before T'Sha B'Av, which marks the memorial of many tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people on this same date throughout history. Such tragedies include, among others, the destruction of the first and second temples in Jerusalem in 165 B.C. and 70 A.D., respectively, and the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492.
The program with Rabbi Miller will initiate a week of enhanced services, lectures and study opportunities at Children of Israel provided by students of the Chofetz Chaim Yeshiva of New York. Call (330) 746-7929.
