COLUMBIANA COUNTY Woman accused in shooting faces more charges

LISBON -- Michaelene Duffy, 43, of St. Jacob-Logtown Road, Lisbon, who is charged with the April 10 shooting of her former landlord, is facing additional criminal charges.
Lt. Jerry Herbert of the Columbiana County Sheriff's Department said the recent indictments against Duffy were by a Columbiana County grand jury on charges of one count of theft, a fourth-degree felony; two counts of taking the identity of another, a fourth-degree felony; and three counts of forgery, a fifth-degree felony.
In April, police said, Duffy shot Thomas Rice, 55 of state Route 7 at his home. He was critically injured but has since been released from the hospital. Police said Rice was shot seven times.
Police said Rice had filed a lawsuit to evict Duffy because she was behind in her rent and kept dogs in the mobile home in violation of her lease.
Concerning the new charges, Herbert said Duffy tried to use the identity of Rice's wife, Juanita, and forged her name and that of Rice at banks to secure credit cards.
In May, Duffy also was charged with two counts of passing bad checks.
The jury trial for Duffy on the attempted murder charge is scheduled for July 18 before Judge David Tobin of the common pleas court.
Duffy remains in Columbiana County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
