Larouere to jointennis team
YOUNGSTOWN -- Colin Larouere of Poland has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Youngstown State.
Larouere, the Bulldogs' number one singles player in tennnis, advanced to the 2002 state semifinals in doubles.
Tickets on sale
YOUNGSTOWN -- Individual game tickets for the 2002 football season go on sale Aug. 1 at the Youngstown State ticket office located in stambaugh Stadium.
Ther ticket office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or can be contacted by calling (330) 742-1978. Season ticket packages for the upcoming season can still be purchased up to the first game.
Reserved tickets are $12.00 while general admission tickets are $8.00.

Scrappers battleAberdeen Ironbirds
NILES -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers return to Cafaro Field tonight to face Cal Ripken Jr.'s Aberdeen (Md.) Ironbirds at 7:05 p.m. It is the first of a three-game series against Aberdeen.
The Scrappers (22-19) are in second place in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League, two games behind Auburn. Aberdeen is 16-25 and nine games out of first in the McNamara Division.
It is Cortland Community Day at Cafaro Field. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Nate Grindell playing card.
Gorby, Kaulenclaim 5k titles
HUBBARD -- Kevin Gorby was the overall men's winner with a time of 16 minutes, 32.04 seconds in the Hubbard Chamber of Commerce 5K run.
Lauren Kaulen was the top female runner with a time of (19.00). Both times were new records.
Telego tops
NILES -- Telego Computer Solutions captured the Niles Youth Baseball 11-12-year-old league title beating Herman Rossi and Sons, 5-4 and 6-3 in a two-game series.
Team members were Michael Kelly, Dan Rosenberger, Mike Anderson, Robert Telego, Nick Harper, Nicholas Mietkiewcz, Nicola Accordino, Nick Kowal, Christopher Poland, Tyler Datchuk and Jacob Northup. Team manager was Steve Telego and coaches were Nick Accordino, Pat kelly and Steve Telego jr.
Fitch soccerdowns Mooney
HUDSON -- The Fitch boys soccer team defeated Mooney 4-2 in a shootout to win the championship in the Hudson High School soccer tournament.
The Falcons defeated Marlington 4-0, Woodridge 4-1, Hoban 2-1 and Kent Roosevelt, then beat Walsh Jesuit 2-0 in the semifinals. Other teams that participated in the event were Niles, Uniontown Lake, Ursuline and West Branch.
Struthers offersreserve tickets
STRUTHERS -- Season tickets for the 2002 Struthers High football games are now on sale and can be purchased by calling Joe Mogulich at (330) 755-7107.
The package includes reserve seats for seven home games for $35.00 and for general admission $28.00.
Tickets for individual games can by purchased at Struthers High, Rip's cafe, Lavilla Sports Bar and General Store.
Benefit golf outing
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Y-103 Lifetime Television for Women Golf Scramble will be held Aug. 7 at Tam O' Shanter Gof Course.
The outing is a two man-two women event and proceeds will benefit the Mahoning and Mercer County american Cancer Society. The funds will be earmarked for breast cancer prevention and detection programs.
Cost is $70 per person or $280 per team, which includes 18-holes of golf, a golf cart, lunch, dinner, refreshments and prizes. Tee time is 9 a.m.

Fan night rained out
FRANKLIN, Pa. -- Tri-City Speedway's Fan Appreciation Night was rained out Sunday, the fifth cancelation of the season.
Heat races were completed for three divisions before the rains came. Kevin Bolland, Josh Skarzenski and Skip Moore won the Schwab's Ford DIRT Modified heats. In the NorthPointe Automotive Super Sprints, Chad Hill and defending track champion Scott Bonnell were the winners.
